Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want
It’s as simple as that. If you don’t ask you don’t get. Everything is negotiable in the business world.
Know who you’re dealing with
Getting to know the needs of the person you’re negotiating with, maintain relationships with key business players. Not only will you be able to see the deal from their point of view but it may give you an advantage.
Provide the other party with as much detail as possible
Simply asking for something with no detail at all is a sure way to get shot down. Think about it from your point of view, would you be willing to give something up without any information? Always give the other party some form of data and explanation as to why you’re asking for something, and always be prepared for questions.
A lack of confidence can become blatantly obvious over the course of a negotiation. Not knowing exactly what you want or what you can offer could be the downfall of the whole deal. Before you head into it, make a list of all the key points that should be addressed.
